IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK, AND CONCERNS SURROUNDING THE CORONAVIRUS, THE BENT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS DECIDED THAT OUR OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC IN AN EFFORT TO DO OUR PART IN COMBATING THE VIRUS, AND FOLLOWING CDC GUIDELINES. NO CIVILIANS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE BUILDING, UNLESS ESCORTED BY A STAFF MEMBER FOR WORK RELATED PURPOSES, SUCH AS REPORTING A CRIME. ALL DELIVERIES WILL BE LEFT OUTSIDE THE FRONT DOORS, AND A STAFF MEMBER WILL COME TO THE DOOR TO PICK UP THE DELIVERY.
WE ARE ENCOURAGING BENT COUNTY CITIZENS TO CALL US, 719-456-1363 IN LIEU OF COMING TO OUR OFFICE. HOWEVER IF YOU COME TO OUR OFFICE YOU WILL NEED TO UTILIZE THE “AFTER HOURS” CALL BOX LOCATED ON THE WEST WALL BY THE SECOND SET (NORTH) DOORS, FOR ASSISTANCE.

The Jail Division Fleet consists of one large capacity transport vehicle, one medium capacity transport vehicle, two single transport vehicles and one Court Security Vehicle.
The Bent County Jail primarily holds inmates for Bent County, Otero County, Colorado Department of Corrections and Kiowa County. The Jail serves as a back up holding facility for Cheyenne and Pueblo Counties.
The facility was built in 1999-2000 to replace the 1902 Jail located next to the Bent County Courthouse. The Jail was originally a built for an Inmate capacity of 46 Inmates and was expanded to 94 Bed capacity in 2020.
The Bent County Jail is staffed with one Lieutenant, two Sergeants and 15 Deputy Sheriff's.
The Jail Division is also responsible for Security of the Bent County Courthouse.
The Bent County Dispatch Center is located inside of the Jail Facility and provides master control services for the facility.
